The start of a new school year is a fresh slate. It’s a time for new classes, new friends, and new opportunities. But for queer students, it can also be a time of navigating identity, finding safe spaces, and building a support system.
Here are a few tips to help you thrive this semester:
1. Seek Out Your Community: Look for your school’s Gender-Sexuality Alliance (GSA) or similar LGBTQ+ student organizations. These groups are fantastic for making friends and finding a supportive network.
2. Know Your Resources: Familiarize yourself with your school’s policies regarding LGBTQ+ students. Know who your allies are, whether it’s a favorite teacher, a counselor, or a supportive administrator.
3. Prioritize Self-Care: School can be overwhelming. Make sure to take time for yourself, whether that’s reading a book, spending time with friends, or simply resting.
4. Be Proud: Your identity is something to be celebrated. You bring a unique and valuable perspective to your school community.
Remember, you don't have to be 'out' for your queerness to be valid. There are many circumstances where being closeted contributes to your housing security, physical and mental wellbeing. There is no 'right' way to live your queerness. Be proud of yourself no matter how you live your truth; when and if you are ready there is a whole community of people ready to support you.
If you are looking for support or just someone to talk to, we offer two programs for queer folks like you:

Chai 'n' Chat (One on one): Register Here
You can also get in touch directly with our coordinator for both programs, by email here.
Have a great school year!
